Re: Weekend finds - toy edition
I love old toys!
for someone who says they're not a serious collector, you sure do know a lot about these pieces...
hard to believe most of them are almost 100 years old...
they will look especially nice around the holiday--all lit up!
enjoy....

Re: Me V.s. Neighbour's Fence Atrocity
in Massachusetts, when installing a fence the 'pretty' side should be facing the neighbors...
the side with the framing should face the installer...that is not the case here...

Re: Tricks for Removing Old Glazing?
the safest and easiest way is to put the sash in a steambox to soften the putty...if you plan to do all the sash in your house then it may be worth the investment...materials for the box cost under $100...the steamer itself costs about $250 but you can find them on ebay for less...there are plans fo...

'for artists' only is one way of getting away with selling a product some people think is unhealthy.... ben moore sells gallons and quarts of oil paint (still available in massachusestts where my business is located...IMPERVO has been around forever and SuperSpec DTM has been available for about 8 y...

I wonder if it's for taking quick measurements of something like firewood or
some product that should be within a certain measurement give or take and
inch or so...
question: how do you keep that rug so clean????

Re: Substitue for Turpentine in Bloturp
hmmm...I appreciate California being environmentally conscientious but real turpentine is not as bad as paint thinner (mineral spirits)... I get my turps shipped from CA...it's expensive (actually the price came down about $10) it might be cheaper to get it from an art supply store and save on shipp...

Re: Glazing one pane becomes ....
nice old bench paul, good place to restore your old sash! that little four lite sash looks very dry...may I suggest a coat of blopentine (50/50 blend of boiled linseed oil/turpentine) once the paint is removed? apply blop over the entire sash then wipe off excess (dispose of rags/papertowel in a buc...

Re: Please help ID casement hardware
your hardware does not look at all familiar to me...you may need to remove and replace...you are going to notice that once the screws are out, there will be wood damage due to further rusting of the shaft of the screw... this is a good place for window hardware, rope/chain and weather stripping: m i...
