Re: Attic renovation

So how did you handle access (stairs)? Did extend an existing staircase or put stairs in another room or ??

We have thought about using our attic space but getting access would mean taking a good amount of space out of a bedroom or from the dining room, neither appeals to me.

Re: I Took the Plunge!

Love , love, love your new home! It is just charming. I am excited to see interior pictures and I second the notion to live in the house for a while before making cosmetic changes. But it sounds like you are into the history so probably don't need that advice! We had a similar carriage house, on dir...

Re: Hanging from picture rails- question

I haven't seen much of plain wire, but instead, wire wrapped in cord, which is what I have. I imagine that many homes kept their fancier hangers for many decades, regardless of the current style. I think you can do as you want.

Re: Is this a dumb idea?

I guess my real issue with painting the floor is that the rest of the existing original floors have been stripped and varnished too and look good. The wood around the toilet is solid/hard, just a bit discolored. The gaps in the floors of other rooms don't bother me, but bathrooms and kitchens need t...

Re: Beebe -- our 1935 Bungalow on Baker Street.

Lily, please check with your city's water board to see if in fact your house is dated from 1935. A lot of your house looks like ours, our bath and kitchen cupboards were added in the 1920s, so until we went to the water board, we thought the house was much newer. The water was turned on in March of ...

Re: Is this a dumb idea?

Thank you all for the info. I think that this will be a fun project for me and will make the bath feel cleaner. When we moved into the house, there was sheet vinyl on the floor, which had started to deteriorate. We removed everything and sanded the floor and sealed it with marine spar varnish - the ...
