Siding Time! (nail and filler questions)
Hello all...long time no see. (Not a Covid-19 joke) I have finally arrived at the point of beginning siding replacement and painting and have a few questions about things. To begin, I am using regular wood "style 105" drop siding, also known as German siding or Dutch siding. It sits flat a...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)
Hey all...yup, I'm still here! With news, too. My dining room is finally finished...in fact, I got it done the day before Thanksgiving and I was the host so in the two months leading up to it I was really under the gun to meet that deadline. I had to pump the brakes financially over the summer, but ...

Re: A bit of a vent/rant
In my experience there are very few people like us in this world, and to an extent I can understand why. To many people the idea of living in a construction zone for years is the last thing they want to do, and many people lack the interest, skills, tools, or talent to embark on such a task as resto...

Re: SUPER Modern Television
This is what I did: Since there is no chimney inside the chimney breast anymore, I used the space to hide the television inside behind one of the panels. The panel is wired up to a gear motor and chain drive to be pulled in and up on tracks when TV is desired, and then with self reversing limit swit...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)
"What did you do with the door you had and the stained glass ect." It's all for sale. It's actually not old at all, I believe it was installed in the 1980's. One thing I will say is the door is the heaviest sucker I've ever felt. Solid oak. It's actually worn the hinges down significantly....

Wow, Ober, those radiators are worth everything you paid for to have them restored. Things of beauty. Love your parquet floors...everything looks great. Hope you are doing well healthwise, and Happy Holidays!

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)
I used the end of summer and early fall to take a little R&R, but did manage to finally restore the double door set I've had stored in my house for the last 8 years. The house originally had paired doors which were lost some time ago, but miraculously, I stumbled across a house that was to be to...

Re: Disassembling a stub tenon door?
Great ideas, all. Thank you for your thoughts. However, l think l'm going to take a different approach and leave the doors mostly alone. I really hate to cut these beauties down as they are such tall graceful looking doors and tearing them apart might well destroy them. Instead l think l will be usi...
