Re: What's happening in your garden?

We've had some great spring weather, albeit a little dry, and things are popping. Bicolor daffodils in the morning light today. 2303 My daffodils are exploding, too! Crocus was already here and gone :( Excited to try to get the lawn going this year. Sprinklers just got fired up and pre-emergent jus...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

Eric, Somehow, I just realized you're in Hackettstown! If you're ever in the Westwood area, PM me. I'm sure we could talk old houses for days over a cup o' Joe! Your house looks amazing. Your siding and structural work are really impressive. I love the paint colors and your windows! Kudos on a top-n...

Re: I Took the Plunge!

PS: 4 feet of snow is preferable to a hurricane. I speak from experience! Amen! Your tree damage was really scary. At risk of sounding like we're playing misery poker--one thing I didn't mention (and I might have pics somewhere) is the crazy icicles this year. I have NEVER seen such big icicles. My...

Re: I Took the Plunge!

Emerging from winter here in Northern NJ and thought I'd share and update with some photos. We got nearly 4' of snow this winter, including a two-foot storm in February. snow1.jpg snow2.jpg snow3.jpg Needless to say, I'm thrilled to be moving toward warmer weather. My goal this year will be to addre...

Re: Glazing won't dry

i concur that it is most likely dap which typically takes 30 days or more to set up sufficiently to paint...oil products cure a bit quicker with air flow...if you can set up a fan on low and have the sash in a relatively warm environment, you should be able to paint in a week or so... whiting, or c...

Re: Antique flatlining

Antique stores around me have continued to close, sadly. I keep an eye on facebook marketplace and craigslist, but even those platforms have kind of fallen off. There's a great consignment shop in Hawthorn, NJ that really has a crazy mix of stuff. It's called Then and Now. I've shopped and consigned...

Re: New to site

Welcome, Calvert! I have come to LOVE the base/scratch coat but loath the lime coat. Mixing the latter perfectly and keeping it from getting rock hard has proven to be a major issue for me in the past. Pointers and expertise would be much appreciated!

Again, welcome!

Re: Alabamy Bound

Here's an update. Once again, thank you for your words of support in response to the hurricane damage; it means a lot. We're all here because we put our blood, sweat and tears (not to be overly dramatic) into our old houses; to have something come crashing down on the project you've focused your at...

Re: I Took the Plunge!

Your holly day decor looks lovely! Meanwhile, I was lucky to drag out the decorations from storage today and wonder where the wreath we usually hang in the middle window upstairs got off to... Thanks :-) Some years it's harder than others, for sure. This is actually my first Christ...
