Because of my innate disorderliness, I've always painted ceilings with an "M" pattern, sometimes a "W" if I'm feeling adventurous. Who knew it was correct?
Years ago, a neighbor had a gloss ceiling in the kitchen. It was carefully done, so quite striking.

Here's a view of the house. It's asbestos to the second-floor sill and stucco above. Some of the vegetation needs to be cleared, but there's a huge live oak to the south which shades the house until the afternoon which, of course, is going to stay. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4166/33905756283_40f5...
