Re: Setbacks...

This bum ankle is keeping me from doing any work on cleaning up my cabinets. I am woozy today with wonky blood pressure readings....after sleeping for 8 hours yesterday during the day and a full 10 hours of sleep last night. It's a day on the couch for me with a kitchen still in boxes and laundry (i...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Trying to get up the gumption to scrub my new to me cabinets on a bum leg. *sigh*. Usually I wouldn't care, but my microwave, convection oven and all my food (save coffee, blueberry bars and anything in the fridge) are packed up.

Re: Help! My historic neighborhood is in trouble!

Sarah, Sorry to hear this is happening to you. The best thing you can do, IMHO, is get as many neighbors involved, and have fact and figures on your side. Boston often has these battles due to our stock of old houses and limited land to develop. Just like a good realtor uses multiple sold properties...

Willa, oh no..no high gloss granite for me. I want something that looks old. I agree that most granite is going to look very dated during the next 'new big look'. It looks like there are 1 or 2 strains of granite that look like soapstone (Virginia mist is one). If I can find something less 'vein-y' ...

Re: Fanny Farmer Peanut Butter Cookies

I'm not a dunker, but I can tell you that they are, if you bake them right (and don't squish them too hard when crosshatching), thick enough to be slightly underbaked in the center, if that's the way you like your cookies. So I have to assume they are dunkable. Trust me, try them. You won't be disap...

Re: Jumping and hoping. Jen's kitchen cabinet adventure.

Willa, thanks, but I have zinc countertops on my Hoosier, and I hate them. They are pitted and bleached white in the cracks. That's why I am thinking honed/leathered granite that looks like soapstone. My mom has granite in her kitchen (for going on 15+ years now) and it's virtually indestructible, e...

Corsetière....this guy in Boston is a legend. He's been in this same spot for at least 20 years. I used to drive by his place on the way home every night.

Old House, I'd be interested to know the size of the grey one (the 2nd picture). I have a missing dining room rad :(

Lily, the Mohawk trail is basically the non-highway areas of Rt 2....didn't realize, it's a bit West of you. m. Kasha, I was really leaning towards soapstone, but sister installed it less than 2 years ago, and we both have the same taste in heavy cookware (she has Demeyere, I have old 7 ply Mauviel ...

Re: Architectural Salvage Road Trip!

Here's my list (either browsing online or seeing live) Z's Antiques (CT)..where I got the cabinets. Consistently one of the best dealers at Brimfield.
