What would you do with this door

Thankfully, so many original features have survived in this house. Not the least of which is the swinging door from the kitchen to butlers pantry. It has been in the attic but now that the attic space has been renovated into living space it's basically homeless. The previous owner told us that they ...

Re: Attic renovation

Just a quick (and rather boring!) update: I have all 6 of the storm windows done and ready to hang. I need my brawny husband to get up on a very TALL ladder to add the male hook portion of the hangers to the window frames. I got these hangers: m And I plan to use this style of stay, so that we can o...

Re: Attic renovation

Anne, that attic space looks wonderful. I like the little added touch of trimming out the angles, keeps an original feel to the room. Thank you! The trimming on the angles is the original corner beams peeking out - They are huge boards, and to get the drywall to cover them would have required build...

Re: Attic renovation

Oh - I also made 2 storm windows a few years ago for the pair of windows in the larger alcove. Today I got frames made for the 2 storm windows by the stairs - once those are glazed I can put them in and start working on the sash. The sash are in pretty tough shape but I do believe they can be saved....

Re: Taking the Rubio Monocoat floor finish plunge

We'll we are very happy with this choice! After about an hour of very gingerly squirting the product on and getting nowhere fast we got the hang of it and the rest was smooth sailing. I still can't figure out how to add a picture but if I have time later today I will get a couple posted. We had 2 of...

Re: Taking the Rubio Monocoat floor finish plunge

Mic and Phil - thank you for the information! Phil, Hopefully not to your horror, we are sanding and finishing the floor ourselves with the help of some family members; they family members have some experience with sanding and using poly finish - but none of us are professionals. As for filling, I w...

Taking the Rubio Monocoat floor finish plunge

We have been slowly working on finishing off out walk-up attic, and are finally getting to the floor! After years of contemplating we have decided to go with the Rubio product in the clear finish. The floor is being sanded this weekend, and I plan to dive in on applying the oil as soon as it ships. ...
