Re: Rocker repair
Looking at how the seats are made they are definitely factory made. Various thicknesses glued up indicate factory. A real Windsor chair would have a one piece seat. In addition real Windsors have multiple woods, selected for the job they are doing. My guess, these are from no earlier than the 50's, ...

Re: quick painting question.
FWIW, as someone involved deeply in finishing, I still haven't switched over to latex anything in my shop. I don't like the look, oil/lacquer finishes give a much deeper look. Even when I paint something (other than a house) I use a lacquer product tinted with colored pigment. My supplier has hundre...

I can't figure out the picture, but all the linoleum I've worked with is solid color through out. The color difference could just be age, stains, etc. Not really sure here.

Don't forget to use a respirator. Some old linoleum has asbestos in it.

Re: Beebe: kitchen floor
Just a suggestion to try. I've restored old metal desks (tanker desks) with linoleum tops by cleaning and then sanding the lino with a hand held random orbit sander. Then adding boiled linseed oil to rejuvenate them (lino has a lot of linseed oil in it). After a through drying, wax with liquid floor...

OK, my $.02. I vote for fir. In my opinion, yellow pine doesn't have the close, distinct grain that fir does. Heart pine IS the heart wood from a yellow pine (various types were used), no such thing as a heart pine tree.

Re: Lustron Homes
There are at least 3 (that I know of) Lustron homes in my town. At least two of them are original on the outside. The other has some mods on the outside, but all still have the original panel colors. I didn't know that they used the panels on the inside also. My dad's service station had the porcela...

Re: Jumping and hoping. Jen's kitchen cabinet adventure.
I would clean them with TSP (tri sodium phosphate (without the phosphate here in NY)). I assume that "until the cabinetmaker goes at it" means the installation. Short of doing a complete refinish, I would leave all the final touch up until he/she is done.
