3/4" edge grain fir T and G in long lengths might be cost prohibitive. 1/4" plywood will do as much for racking. Im planning to split some old flooring to about 1/4" thic and use that with a profile to the edges like a lap joint. that way I can attach my plywood and then cover it with fir but the fi...

paint doesn't slide well against paint and that's why you wont find the outsides of drawers painted, Id use a piece of card stock like a business card to check the gap and feel for where it's tight. if you can find a piece of thin metal like a feeler gauge you can use that. Just locate the tight spo...

nothig wrong with storing rags or brushes in s sealed up pickle jar. as far as fire is concerned, once air is removed from the jar spontaneous combustion wont occurr. having flamable liquids in glass jars can present a danger should they be dropped. It's basically like having a "molotov cocktail" on...

Re: Are Forums a dying thing?
i tried facebook when it began but when I realized they were collecting and compiling my data I opted out. giving up the rights to photos and allowing bots to scan every word and link it to my phone number is too intrusive for my liking. There are still lots of good forums on almost every subject im...

Re: 1870s/1880s Aesthetic chair - what kind of upholstery?
Its pretty much expected that the upholstery on a chair that old needs replacement. To me it looks a bit overstuffed , as if someone opened it up but didnt' do the proper type of stuffing but rather just added more. I started into my old english victorian armchair, re-did the webbing and attached ne...
