Re: Happy Valentines Day , everyone !

Happy Valentines Day, Willa and everyone! I was just rejected by the carpenter both my neighbor and the local B&B owner recommended to build me some bookshelves. No "can we push back the time to ?", just "sorry, I can't price it and I can't do it, maybe next time" when a &qu...

On the bright side it is probably latex paint, so it would be easy to remove from the stone or ceramic ?

Re: Unusual Mantel Spotted

Wonderful, clever mantel, including the iron insert. My guess would be late 19th early 20th century, but others are far better at this than I. What the buyer did with it and its surroundings is probably supposed to be unconventional, bold and daring but winds up a pig's breakfast. I guessed that th...

Unusual Mantel Spotted

This was in someone's FB feed. I don't know anything about the piece, except they purchased it at a salvage type place. I am guessing it is early 20th c. - 1920's, probably ceramic ? The buyer bought it in the ivory looking finish, then painted it red with burgundy on top. The mirror definitely is n...

Heritage Designation in Your Community

What does it entail ? What are the advantages/disadvantages ? In a different thread Jacquie Jet mentioned that heritage designation helped reduce their property tax. How does the process work in your community ? I just received notice that my property now has official heritage designation. I started...

Well, this isn't actually happening in MY garden, but maybe in someone else's ?

Re: 1920s kitchen cabinets

The add has been deleted so I would assume they have been sold. The down side to this though is a nice period kitchen is being dismantled, the up side of course is another old home is being put back together, I hope. Maybe James snapped them up ? If so, he better tell us all about it ! At least the...

Re: Farmhouse over the Moat

Oh boy ! I bet your house smells a lot different with the bad old carpet gone ! I had the same problem with some type of latex paint over old oil paint on my trim. The areas that were the worst were the areas that previously had a lot of "patina" (aka years of skin oils) around areas like ...

Re: 1920s kitchen cabinets

Oh yeah ! If you need them, go grab them. Some might quibble about the price as they need a good cleaning at the least. (I think the price is decent, esp. if they a good fit for where they need to go. Obviously the price will vary depending on the market - middle of nowhere where no one would ever c...
