On wood windows you can use either, on metal you use Dual.

Why?

I just put about 3 lb of type M on my metal windows. Do I have reason to be concerned?

I do not know why Type M is not listed as suitable for metal. Try reaching out to Sarco directly perhaps? https://www.sarcoputty.com/contact

Re: Window putty

I have not used this product but Allback makes a linseed oil putty that you can get in Canada. Linseed oil putty is what I always used in the UK. It's bond to be different to Sarco, but I would bet it works better than DAP. You need to mix it well before use, and sometimes with linseed you need to m...

Re: Window putty

JJet, unfortunately I have not found any thing but DAP so that is what I use, I think your only option is to get the good stuff online from the States. Whiting is a ground Chaulk, it is used to clean the glass after you have glazed it. I have never used it, it picks up the oils from the glazing com...

Re: Gothichome, the restoration of.

I'll be really interested to see waht, if any color combos are revealed when you strip them. I think personally I would be looking to repair the cracks not replace the panels, the latter can be pretty invasive and challenging. Good luck One thing I have found when taking old panels out of doors - yo...

Re: InnerGlass Window Systems

The extra layer of thicker glass would do a lot to help with sound at my place. I think Ill just try making some simple frame out of fir. I planned to start on the weekend but things got delayed. Ive had my baseboards sitting around too long and decided I better get them sanded and back in place so...

Re: InnerGlass Window Systems

so if you need to open a window then you need to remove the storm completely and store it in the house somewhere? I think I'd be afraid of tripping over them all. are they tempered glass? They do a sliding double hung option Phil, I have one on my bedroom window. I prefer the removable ones, yes yo...

Re: steamer for steam box

yep, get the big Jiffy steamer - you will find all sorts of uses for it afterwards - stripping paint, bending wood, or even steaming fabrics and shaping hats

I think the smaller ones can be used but dont produce as much steam / need refilling more often

Re: Repair/replace gothic window muntons

I'm pretty sure those windows are fairly easily saveable. It would certainly be cheaper to restore them fully than to replace them - even if you got a skilled tradesperson to do them for you

Re: The argument for retaining historic windows

Take a look at my review of one inner storm manufacturer here - I love em, they work amazingly well, are inexpensive, and I tell everybody who will listen to get them viewtopic.php?f=13&t=22
