Re: Dormer project

That dormer looks amazing! I can't believe how fast you stripped the old paint off. This project probably would have taken me a year.... granted, I am good at dragging projects out until my wife puts some pressure on.

Re: Repairing my door muntin (trying at least)

Setting brad nails seems like a great idea. I'm going try tht out. I like the idea of the mold, but will give this other method a try first. Now I just need to find some time this weekend.

Thanks everyone!

Repairing my door muntin (trying at least)

Now that I am working on the back porch, I want to repair the damage on the back door and give it a fresh coat of paint. I've used a contour gauge to find the profile of the muntin and cut that shape into a thick piece of vinyl siding that I removed from the porch ceiling. I figured that aiding the ...

Re: Help me save my historic district

I sure don't understand wrapping that beautiful house in vinyl. It looks pretty darned nice in those photos. Does it not cost a small fortune to install vinyl anyway? I agree that the quotes from that couple sound pretty bad. They are basically on the record saying that they don't care, and in a pre...

Re: Back porch project, in progress

We weren't planning on paint, but we are considering an opaque stain. Our guess is that the opaque stain will have a longer life and will be easier to apply and maintain. We are definitely going to stain the door panels outside of the framing. That will be a while, I have heard that treated wood nee...

Re: Back porch project, in progress

Jade: yeah, they doors and windows were really rotten. I did not take pictures, but 3 of the window frames blew in during a wind storm. There was a lot of plywood screwed to the interior to hold it all together. One whole corner, including the 4x4 had no solid wood at least a foot from the bottom.

Back porch project, in progress

When we bought our home, we bought it "as-is". It was a foreclosure, and we were reminded through the process, that it was "as-is". It was not as easy to get financing due to some of the issues. Anyway, I would say the back porch was probably the worst part of the house. Which is...

Re: what is this garage door style called...

No, it has to very large springs that attach into the floor on both sides. Apparently some consider this to be dangerous because they can cause damage if they break... not to mention the 300lbs door.
