Re: What I did at my house today...
Corcetiere, you are pushing the weather with your window project, will this have all the widows done in this attic room. Look at that poor plant, you obviously didn’t cocoon it from lead dust. Yeah I'm not too worried about the windows taking a little longer since they are on my work table not &quo...

Re: What I did at my house today...
...I recently got a pickup truck... Slippery slope! Yep....I have been looking at bookcases and sofas, too. I found an art nouveau sofa and his and hers armchair set that is to die for. Upholstery is shot and the figural crest needs work on the "hers" chair, but damn...it really is except...

Re: What I did at my house today...
Finished up the coats of spar varnish on my attic north side windows. Planning to get glass for them cut this weekend and then on to glazing putty, cleaning up the hardware, and reinstallation. Also, fighting against the seasonal change and the weather to finish some outdoor tasks. I dug up the last...

Re: Infrared Paint Strippers
the cobra is all the rage - gets amazing reviews. I have the speedheater and it is useful for somethings, but the cobra looks more like it would be heat gun-easque in use I'm pretty excited about trying it out. I am not sure if she has the original model or the cobra. I was planning on getting it t...

Re: Infrared Paint Strippers
Yeah I am going to go with the licensed professional advice I got from the instructor that taught the contractors course on lead abatement that I took and not do any paint stripping with a heat gun (without a PAPR). But I'm more interested in discussing the benefits of infrared. I'm going to borrow ...

Re: I got my Mojo back! A new find!
Nice find. Should be easy to re-wire if they need it. Looking at the sockets, shade fitters, and the "leaf" surrounds for the sockets, I'd date the newly found ones to about 1915 or so. The others may be slightly older, maybe 1910-12 or thereabouts. The leaf socket surrounds started falli...

Re: Infrared Paint Strippers
Yeah but after taking the course on lead abatement I learned it is not safe to strip paint with a heat gun unless you are using a PAPR. I think the PAPRs are probably at least $500, maybe more? I've used a heat gun in dire circumstances outdoors when nothing else was working on the paint, but appare...

Infrared Paint Strippers
Have we discussed this before? I didn't come up with much when I searched the forum. A friend is going to let me try out her Infrared paint stripper. From what I gather, it seems to work best on flat surfaces? Anyone have one? Do you have a brand preference? I know they are expensive, but so is chem...
