The POs had truly atrocious taste in wallpaper, wall color, carpet, etc. We discovered some real wallpaper gems in our bathrooms, too. Our downstairs bathroom had a purple, red, gold and black LARGE floral print similar to one of those Russian scarves. Our tile is white with pale blue fleur de lis ...

Ugh! That sounds awful, Clover. I wonder why ours isn't showing or peeling. Maybe because the application was so old and they used different adhesives? The PO hadn't painted in many years so I think we are pretty safe from disaster at this point. *fingers crossed*

We have a few places in our home where *old* wall paper was painted over and you honestly can not tell. It was already that way when we bought the house, otherwise I'd probably be tempted to scrape it off. It may matter what color paint you choose also, a deeper shade may camouflage more. Not the be...
