1884 Mason & Hamlin style 901. This has been a holy grail quest to get one of these. I'm in the midst of a lengthy restoration.

Roxul is an acceptable firestop material, I don't think fiberglas is.

get a good sawzall and a lot of 9"metal-cutting blades, pry each board up with a thin prybar just enough to get the saw blade under, cut each nail. You can get the boards out with next to no damage. Number each one so they go down in the same order and you should not need to sand. We went throu...

Silicone's bad rap is that once dried, nothing sticks to it, not even fresh silicone. And it always manages to peel off and admit water. This is why metal glaziers use butyl caulk or tape.

The sash are painted before the weatherstrip is installed, so there is no metal/metal contact. Anyways, rust itself is an insulator to some extent, to deter galvanic corrosion.
