Re: What I did at my house today...
The transom has waited a hundred years, it can wait until spring. It's starting to get cold. Time to work inside. I hope you bit the bullet and put LED bulbs in the light fixture. Looks good. Your front porch sets the tone for the rest of the house. I'm very glad you managed to work out the lead iss...

Re: HVAC recommendation?
Here I go, again, being the Debbie Downer. Sorry if you think I'm being harsh because I don't intend to be. The problem you have isn't a heat source. The problem is you have a contractor who probably isn't ever going to finish the job and would seemingly have no real direction or goal in mind. HVAC ...

Re: Buying a table saw
Buy the best saw your budget will allow. A lot of that will depend on shop space or if you plan on using it in various work areas. A stationary saw in a dedicated shop will always work better for you but some times that isn't possible. Also, if you're planning on using it for trimming window sashes ...

Re: How do you fill the gap when you pull a window?
If the plywood bothers you that much just paint it with some kind of interesting scene. Maybe Killroy peering out over the sill or something? Or if you have a shop that could print something like this in a large enough format you could glue it on your plywood? https://hollywoodeastpdx.files.wordpres...

Finally installed the sink. Looks simple, except for having to dig a water line, a drain, and all the rest. But she got her sink. Now it's too cold to enjoy.

Re: Attic renovation
And I plan to use this style of stay, so that we can open them easily in the summer but still latch them securely shut. m Does anyone have experiences with storm window hardware - good or bad? I have not had to put anything new together for this old house (we have been fortunate to have basically a...

Re: how to apply poly
I'm not so sure I'd go there with that. Used motor oil is also a significant source of ground water pollution. My trailer won't be in contact with the ground and is generally covered from exposure to the rain. It's does a good job but is only slightly less bad for things than a railroad tie soaked i...

Re: how to apply poly
When that finish fails I'll just soak it with used motor oil. That's my go-to finish for such things.

Re: how to apply poly
I recently replaced the floor in my little utility trailer. Of course I needed to give the untreated 2x12s some kind of protective coating. Since I had a buddy "helping" me at the time we just took a gallon of old exterior poly I had left over from the long-gone kids' swing set and just po...
