Re: Better get a summer project in! Time for the back wall
I still have large rubber bands to put around the ends of the 16'ers....prevents the boards from "wagging" around while carrying them [edit: in groups of whatever is comfortable] and they don't feel quite so heavy.

Maybe use a wire cup brush and/or fine grit flap wheel attachment in a drill?

Re: Vintage Fridge Shopping
My comment was under the assumption one would want the appliance to be retrofitted to meet safety codes. This is the first I have heard of the Stove Lady. How much does an upgrade like this cost ? If you send the Stove Lady the year and model # of your gas stove, she could give you an est. and whet...

Re: "Weeds"
Burdock! As a kid, we would have burdock fights (who needs velcro darts?). My grandmother used to talk about preparing it during the Depression but it's not something we ever ate. The flower is okay but the plant is ugly when the season is over...and dead plants seem to hang around forever. I'd call...

Re: Vintage Fridge Shopping
Don't all vintage natural gas appliances require retrofitting to meet safety codes (ie. emergency shut-off & regulator)? Wouldn't such retrofitting also entail using the new refrigerant as the previous one is no longer to code? I don't know how such matters are administered ? Are used appliance...

Re: "Weeds"
To a large extent, a "weed" is often that which a homeowner didn't intend to have grow, doesn't know what it is, or there's just too much of it. Anything in the mint family seems to be labelled a weed. It can get out of control so we tend to put it into pots and harvest it as we use it. At...

Horshack: "Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!" Horshack, "Welcome Back, Kotter" I know this one (and not from looking it up just now, lol). Alternating offset rows of two stretchers between each header is called a "Flemish Double Stretcher Garden Wall Bond"; not to be confused with the thr...

Re: Heavenly
Lily, plant morning glory in the ground. Combine it with moonvine, Ipomoea alba , for guaranteed coverage and fragrant blooms at night. Thank you for the suggestions. Should we trellis off that short side of the porch (above the rail) then to help support the vines? Would it be best to do so all th...

Re: Garden Question
"Weed" is a flexible designation. If you like it, it's not a weed. That's what I say, too. As for the pokeweed, it's properties are what make it undesirable to me (there are other things to attract songbirds). I pluck and throw away dandelion but it's what was cooking in my grandparents' ...
