Re: Retro

I could easily have my own column, "Grammar Gripes" where I vent my endless list of complaints about the way people slaughter the language, and it could run until I collapse from exhaustion and rancor. One that jumped out at me today while shopping for a vintage fridge (yes, I still am ) ...

Willa, The rosette at the bottom of your porch columns could be multi-colour but the columns, themselves, would be monotone. The box trellis feature would also be the same monochrome of your pillars but the rectangles would lend themselves to having stained glass installed entered within them; thes...

Re: What I did at my house today...

{snip}Then I scrubbed 3 yrs. of dirt off the front porch, cleaned bugs out of the front door light, and washed windows. You just reminded me we still have no cover on our front porch light. Our side porch has one, but the front is just a plate with the bulb on its side. You also reminded me I have ...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Yesterday I put new line in the weed wacker and trimmed the sidewalk. Then I scrubbed 3 yrs. of dirt off the front porch, cleaned bugs out of the front door light, and washed windows. While I had soapy water and the hose out I washed my RAV4 for the first time this year...it kind of really needed it...

Re: Old home collective

Folks, for the past few years I have been mulling over the thought of an old home informal collective for the mutual benefit of all members. My thoughts would be to Organize fellow century home owners in the area to acquire resources we would commonly all need. An example, at some point most of tho...

Re: Getting Trim Custom Milled

Normally, the profile (cross-section) gives the clearest description of moulding; esp. if there's no egg-n-dart or dentil detail. If emailed to someone, a dwg. scale next to the tracing would be helpful.

Re: Vintage Fridge Shopping

I only recall we paid something like $300-$400 for the 1953 Chambers Model C stove (off Craigs List) and the total came to about $1,600-$1,800. This total includes purchase price, pick-up in Chappaqua, NY, 20 mile delivery to Stove Lady in Yonkers, NY, all her work to clean and restore the stove, p...

It looks like Fentimans North America has a couple retailers near me that might sell D&B. I'll have to stop by and see. Thanks for the heads up.
