Re: Coal fireplace

FF6BB2BA-4CC0-483B-BC94-32835EEB1EC2.jpeg Here is a coal fire in ours. We still had some brown coal in the basement coal bins. I had just had the chimney repointed and swept so I had to try it out at least once. Started it with kindling and slowly put coal on top. Burned all day and heated the down...

Re: Coal fireplace

Depending on the size of the fireplace, there are gas burners with fake coals. You cut the bottom of your coal grate so the burner sits beneath and the fake coal looks to be sitting on the old grate. The ash cover should hide most of the guts. I plan on doing that with mine. It is either that or fin...

Re: Antique flatlining

The Springfield Antique and Flea Market Extravaganza is at the Clark County Fairgrounds this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Were not looking for anything specific but always go to see what is out there. They usually have some nice stuff. Plus there is a guy who makes great ice cream with an old hit mi...

Re: 1925 Wall Heater?

I have something similar, less fancy in my upstairs bathroom. It is was piped into natural gas. The knob controlled the flame height and a small metal flue was run inside the wall up to a thimble on the chimney in the attic. I lit it once to see how it worked and then disconnected the gas line in th...

Again, love the color choices.

The stencils were purchased from MB Historic Decor. We have bought several from them.

My wife is the color picker. Once I get outside the primary colors, I’m lost. :-D

Re: Using fireplace surround tile for hearth

Thanks for the compliments! I have a long wire stretched around the attic. Below the jack in the basement is a grounding rod. Most of what I listen to is on a strans transmitter connected to my computer but every now and then I can find something on a broadcast or shortwave station. AF0023FA-004A-47...

Re: Using fireplace surround tile for hearth

I figure I’ll keep posting pics as I work on the room. The ceiling is just about done being stenciled. Re: Using fireplace surround tile for hearth

Thanks everyone! The floors were scraped and then sanded with a 4” orbital sander. One more pass with fine sandpaper and they are ready for finish. I don’t trust myself with a drum sander. The flooring is thin t&g oak and my luck I would sand off the top of the groove side. Yes, the wood parts a...

Re: Using fireplace surround tile for hearth

Sorry that is has been a minute but we have been working on the room and have finally finished the hearth. It seemed that there was never enough of either color tile to do exactly what we were thinking. I’m happy with what we ended up with though. The slate tile should take the brunt of anything bei...

Re: Using fireplace surround tile for hearth

I apparently don’t have as many tiles as I thought. This is as close as I can get to a mostly green hearth. I might see if I can find a grey colored unglazed tile that is the same width of the iron opening and comes out far enough to give me enough green to get to the brown border. F20499D5-FC0A-430...
