Re: Yearly maintenance budget
And I'm back! It has been about a year. This topic caught my attention. My first response is that of , "Budget? What is this of which you speak?" For an old house, the 1% does not apply. So far, we have doubled the purchase price in the first ten years, giving that our house was "move...

That is one darling house. It looks like it has good size to it without being overwhelming. Too bad the trees are in your way, but you are making progress inside and out.

Man, that house is roomy. Look at the space you have. You are very lucky.

Don,
I had no idea you have been alone that long. So sorry to hear about Susan's death. You always have such a pleasant demeanor on these boards.
Gothichome, your sense of humor delights me. Keep this thread going. I've retired twice already and threaten to do so once more.

I think I see a porch swing.
This is a beautiful screened-in porch. I have one of my own, or I would be envying you too, too much.

I'm checking in, just in time to see the unveiling of this beauty. Best wishes. Will you live in the house as you fix it up?

Re: When Considering the Purchase of a NRHP House...
My house is on the National Register, but not in a Historic District. I can do absolutely anything, no questions asked. Now, if I want tax credits, I have to do the paperwork. I actually did the paperwork, got the work done, and haven't done the last tiny bit to get the tax credit. I am such a procr...

Re: Happy birthday Kansas.1911
Glory be, I didn't expect this. Yup, I turned the big 6-4. Thanks for the good wishes.
I just drove from Kansas to Washington DC, and flew home on the return. I took a car to my younger daughter. They grow up, move away, and still need their mom for some things.

Re: 1860 Maine Farmhouse Update!
Welcome. That's a pretty house.
We had our electric service buried--seemed frivolous but we didn't like the look of all those wires. We are very happy we did so.
Good luck with the exterior.

Re: Opinion on this home, please
I agree with Phil. I'd pass on this also. Assume that the bathrooms are in need of everything--wiring, plumbing, fixtures, floor. All that paint-covered woodwork would be a turn-off. If nobody lived in it for a year, other "critters" might have moved in. We have battled bats, termites, bir...
