Re: Circa 1884 McCuiston House

I didn't realize it's been so long since I have posted an update. Time has a way of slipping away from us. Not much major has been going on in the restoration, but I have picked up the second-story guest bathroom renovation. I can't call it a "restoration", because my home predates bathrooms and nev...

Re: Linoleum rugs

Thank you for sharing this. I recently discovered from the fourth-generation to live in my home that the kitchen floor, which is a pristine heart pine, was originally covered with an early linoleum. She told me she remembered pulling it up in the 1960s-1970s because it had faded a lot and she wanted...

Re: Gothichome, the restoration of.

I love the selection of the tile. Absolutely beautiful.

I'm following your bathroom project with much interest. I need to re-start mine next year, so I am gleaning ideas from yours.

Re: Circa 1884 McCuiston House

The table is circa 1890s, solid oak. I believe it would be considered a lamp table. Should I ever come across another table more suitable for an end table (especially two; one for each side of the bed), I would switch it out and use this table elsewhere. The bed steps are not antique (sadly), but ar...

Re: Circa 1884 McCuiston House

I forgot to mention--notice that tiny brown spot on the door on the right on that last picture? That's a portion of the faux graining that once covered all of the woodwork in this publically-seen areas of this house. I suspect that Mr. McCuiston told his wife he would hire the faux graining artist w...

Re: Circa 1884 McCuiston House

Hey, folks! It's been over a year since my last update on the house. My "second mom" passed away in May after a 12-year battle with dementia and 4-year battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This last year has been extremely hectic as her needs were dire for that entire time. Now that she's p...

Re: Removing paint from linoleum tile

I wonder how well CitriStrip would work for this. I've found it to be fairly gentle, and if you experimented with the time of how long you left it to sit on the paint, I wonder if you could get it to where the paint was soft enough to come up without damaging the flooring. Might be worth a shot!
