Re: Trying to decide between Waterlox and Polyurethane

I can answer 50% of your question. We had the original pine floors sanded, filled then finished with polyurethane (solvent based). Over several years, the fill between the boards worked itself out in many places, and the areas subject to the hardest use showed wear, including from cat claws(from run...

Jacquie, there are two other troubles that can happen to vintage electric stoves. The switch that controls the element can deteriorate, and depending on the age of the stove there are also fuses that can blow and need replacement. When the switch goes, the burners usually won't operate on anything ex...

Here's a pic before the listing vanishes. It's a pretty utilitarian thing. Did Cosco make high chairs, I wonder ?

Re: How much did it cost yall to remodel your kitchen?

You could find some great deals at the builder's surplus stores with one caveat - you need to know how much things are worth before you go there. Sometimes those places are sneaky and make you think you are getting a deal when you are paying as much or more than you would elsewhere. Sometimes those ...

Wow - I had forgotten how much incredible work you have done on your house. The quality of your work is excellent, as is your one room at a time from start to finish approach. Hey - do you have any more pics of your foyer with the double doors and transoms ? I am also very curious about your front d...

Re: How much did it cost yall to remodel your kitchen?

Here's an article about kitchen design and space clearances: m One point that doesn't get mentioned is to consider the size of the family members. If you or your spouse are large or wide then add a few more inches of clearance space to your plans. I lived in an older apartment that was well laid out...

Re: How much did it cost yall to remodel your kitchen?

You definitely need to get all the measurements for how much space the oven, dishwasher and fridge doors open PLUS the room for the user to be comfortable standing in front of these doors for loading/unloading and doing things like bending over. What is the benefit of having an island with a cooktop...

Re: 1852 balloon frame itallianate newbie rehab

Earthdad, have you spoken with an established realtor who represents property in this area ? I don't mean whoever sold you this property - I mean someone there who can show you the last 18 months of comparable solds. This is your property and you CAN do whatever you want to it. All the CAD drawings ...

Re: 1852 balloon frame itallianate newbie rehab

Umm, earthdad ? Victorian houses did have kitchens inside, and many had indoor plumbing by the 1880's, depending on the town or city where it was located. You can do a sympathetic restoration - that house of yours has a lot still left to work with. If you're going to gut it, and do a bunch of trendy...

JJ - look up Ed White Appliances in Port Hope. He is an old school guy and doesn't have a website. However he really knows his appliances and may be able to source the part for you ? I don't know if you could persuade him to make a housecall to you to fix your stove ? There is also this place in She...
