Re: got a bathtub, yea..

Hey Phil, nice tank. Poke around on www.deabath.com they have all the parts for everything (though are not the cheapest) it's a good resource for "what do I need for" type questions. they are also very responsive with advice by email in my experience. As you worked out it is a low flush not a high f...

Re: Are Forums a dying thing?

I have worried about this some ver since I set up this place as a refuge from the spamfest at WavyGlass. I think that the format is now kind of out of date, and as it doesn't mesh with everyday life in the way that say Facebook does people tend to gravitate away to similar groups on that platform. I...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Oh, I do that, too, Phil! I bought a bunch of square stair balusters at Habitat for $2. Didn't know what I was going to do with them. They ended up as a bathroom vanity and laundry sink base. I'll post pics later. I also sew, and I never look at patterns first. I find a fabric I love and THEN look ...

Re: hood fan vent delemma

IMO the rectangular vent pipe is not "wrong", just tends to be used in tight spaces. If it were indeed wrong you would not be able to buy the right vent caps and outlets for it Coincidentally I had to use rectangular ductwork for my kitchen hood in order to run it above the ceiling and out...

Re: Turpentine alternative

I would try mineral spirits "blop" on a test sample of wood. My bet is it will work to thin the BLO like turpentine but wont have the same anti-biological qualities. It can successfully be used to thin linseed oil based paint

Re: Glass panels

I would not put on a cover on the outside, part of the beauty of stained glass outside the building is the differing textures and relief - a sheet of glass in front will hide that. I might be inclined to add one on the inside however for protection and heat transfer - I may even use plexiglass / lex...

Re: update on turpentine

I string up a line just like a clothes line and peg the cloths like you would a dish towel. You will know when they are safe as they go hard. The bucket method works well too

Re: update on turpentine

IMO either should be fine for Blop, the Balsam one is likely better quality than you need
