Re: Insulation under floorboards/in crawlspace

We went through last year and threw out all the wet or damaged insulation that had fallen out, but new pieces keep falling, which if in good condition we will reinstall. We keep getting mixed answers on faced vs unfaced installation though. One guy told us it will be termite bait, everywhere else sa...

Insulation under floorboards/in crawlspace

Let me start out by stating I am in Georgia, hot and humid in the summer and sometimes cold and wet in the winter.. The insulation under one of the bedrooms is falling out and missing in most places. It's gotten to the point the bedroom temperature is not consistent with the rest of the house. Our h...

Re: Removing paint from fireplace tiles and grout

We have cement in the bedrooms (painted over of course )
The husband might have an absolute melt down and shut the whole project down if I mention cement.
He is not a visualizer or DIYer, but I dont disagree that may be a way to go

Re: Removing paint from fireplace tiles and grout

I'm really not sure, I think the back ones might be. The ones I stripped are in the living room, I stripped a small tile on the surround, the livingroom and the dining room fire places match. I think the surround tiles might be original, but the floor tiles, I'm not sure. This is a picture of the su...

Re: Removing paint from fireplace tiles and grout

The husband hates them. He asked me last night if I was going to paint them back over Called them a nasty cream color  (But hey, he finally gave me some sort of opinion, so  ) I mean, I dont exactly love the color either and am thinking of just replacing them. :shhh: I'd like to find a ...

Re: Removing paint from fireplace tiles and grout

Sara, do you have an occilating saw, they make a grout removal blade, it would take a steady hand but it may be the way to go. After just regrout. They also make a hand operated grout removal as well but it would require elbow grease and patience, less chance of damage though. https://www.homehardw...

Removing paint from fireplace tiles and grout

In going to get myself in trouble if I don't figure out how to remove the paint from the grout. The fireplace ground tiles are painted with a gray primer coat and 2 coats of black. My kids and I are always cold, so in the winter we are always found on the hearth, right next to the heater insert, so ...

Re: Rain coming down the walls

Sara, I would suspect it had been leaking for a long time. I think I would just let it dry out naturally after the leak has been fixed and call it good. Mold growth requires damp, once that’s eliminated it should not become a problem. I see some staining on the roof deck boards as well, that can be...

Rain coming down the walls

:violin: :violin: :violin: Our roof was put on in '08 so I was surprised to wakeup and find water dripping out of the ceiling and running down the wall of one of our back rooms. I was up in this part of the attic back in January and saw no signs of leaks or prior dampness. We got up on the roof betw...

Re: Column Bases

Sara, looking at the older picture and comparing to the new, I think your porch has had a major rebuild. The older picture shows a brick foundation supporting the deck were as you now have a lattice surround and I see the exposed ends of the 2x12’s. Also I see other differences in the build, in the...
