Re: Circa-1860's Farmhouse in Indiana
Thanks for the welcomes! I wish someone had repaired our house correctly a long time ago. It looks like whenever something went wrong, more layers of wallpaper, paint, or wood paneling was added to try and cover it up. I can't even count how many layers of wallpaper there were in the dining room, bu...

Re: Circa-1860's Farmhouse in Indiana
Thanks, guys. We started to remove some of the wallpaper in the master bedroom and were surprised to find drywall under it. We thought it would be plaster like all of the other rooms. Think again, I guess! It became a mess real fast with the wallpaper steamer. We've left that room alone since then, ...

Re: Circa-1860's Farmhouse in Indiana
Thanks! Does anyone have experience and/or tips on painting over wallpaper? We have wallpaper on literally every surface, with the exception of the rooms that have tacky wood paneling in them. One of my Mom's friends is an interior designer, and she suggested sealing the seams with new glue, priming...

I wish we still had just one of the fireplaces, but we don't.

Re: Circa-1860's Farmhouse in Indiana
Thanks! I'm not sure if we'll go back to what the front porch in the picture from 1915 looks like, but it'll definitely be something that fits well with the style of the house. As you can see from the other vintage photograph, there also used to be a porch on the south side of the house, but that wa...

Circa-1860's Farmhouse in Indiana
Hi, all, In the past, I've followed the posts on the Old House Web and Wavy Glass websites. I'm happy to have found everyone once again! Last April, we purchased our circa-1860's farmhouse. We're fortunate that one of the former owner's great-grandsons lives just up the lane from us, and he was able...

Re: Another OHW Transplant and a New-Old House (1851)
Anyway, I've been a little aggravated by my neighbor's apparent lack of concern for the trees and other shrubs that have been growing out of control and through their fence, into and over my driveway. It was becoming an obstacle course to steer the car around all of the branches poking through. That...

Nice to see you again, too, Wackyshack! After months of wondering, I finally got to see what a box gutter was today. I have to admit, the name is a bit misleading. At least I have a better idea now of where my leak in the upstairs bathroom is originating. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b37/kafalk...

Re: Hello from East Tennessee!
Welcome, CedarLane. I love the built-in's! That's the one thing I wish I had here in my house; they add such character. (I also really like the paint color you have in your front room/entry.) Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your house.
