Re: Paint Stripping on Trim: Anyone ever hire it out?

I keep thinking there has to be a better, more efficient way to strip paint than what I've been doing, I'm always interested to hear people's methods. I can't imagine hiring any reasonably competent person would be even remotely affordable, if you do find them send them my way next. There are tools...

Re: Emerson Hadley House

I think the odds of me sandblasting are close to zero. It was an interesting rabbit hole for a few minutes, but it ain't going to happen. I totally agree that I'll be doing tedious hand sanding of the detail. It appears there's no varnish remaining on those parts, so no chemicals are required. What...

Re: 1888 Victorian (Shingle style???)

Work has slowed a bit again for me but over the past few weeks I have gotten a few things done. I did the final sanding and the first few coats of shellac on all the window frames, door frames, shoe molding and baseboard, I won't do the final coats until the floor has been finished and the room is a...

Re: Emerson Hadley House

I hadn't seen that small sander, it looks like a useful tool. One thought I had to do my door and some of the parts on my mantels is to get a sandblasting gun, then it's just about finding the right media to remove the finish without damaging the wood. Your post got me looking into it a little more...

Re: A question for GibsonGM or any one else

I have been using Peel Stop Triple Thick, it fills some of the very small cracks but I used wood putty for anything more than the thickness of one or two pieces of paper. This high build version is interesting to me, I assume it's quite a bit thicker than the triple thick, I know the Peel Stop famil...

Re: 1888 Victorian (Shingle style???)

Munch, that is a lovely glass panel and looks even better in your window. I could only hope to get my wood that clean. Were these all painted fore you started. Good decision on painting the electric conduit, although it doesn’t disappear it’s not so obvious. Thanks. Yeah, virtually all the wood in ...

Re: 1888 Victorian (Shingle style???)

I've managed to get a little more progress made in the past week or two. I finally finished the oval leaded glass window that I let sit for the last year and got in installed in my front (green) room, that's particularly satisfying for myself. I had been holding off because I had a piece of the inte...
