Re: Roller Shades ARRRGH!

Yep, I understand what you're saying, especially if you choose dark fabric since the tear-to-fit shades only come in white. For the ones in my bedroom, I used a subtle off-white print, and just kept the long edges as straight as possible. It just looks like a border around the shade from the outside...

Re: Got a Before & After to share? Let's see 'em!

Thank you! Since my house is on the young side and really has no distinct style, I've tried to create what I call in my head "updated Art Nouveau". It's sort of farmhouse, sort of Tudor, and sort of Arts & Crafts, with a dash of Art Deco modernity. Actually, the stenciling was the easiest part! I di...

Re: Roller Shades ARRRGH!

After paying enormous amounts of money in the past for all kinds of roller shades, I have found that the best thing to do is to get a tear-to-fit blackout shade from Walmart and cover it with cotton (quilting) fabric. Here are the instructions I used: https://thediymommy.com/make-a-no-sew-fabric-cov...

Re: Got a Before & After to share? Let's see 'em!

Hello all, it's been... a year? Yeah, my state of mind has not been good at all, and my house projects stalled. But! I've been working on my upstairs floors because I ordered a new desk and so I'm on a time limit. I know that it is far from ideal, but I have to go one room at a time and do it by han...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Today I put in my new storm door. It's not completely done yet because I need to get a longer strike plate, but it stays closed.

It is a custom ProVia door and has a lifetime warranty on the door and handleset finishes.

Re: Paint Stripping on Trim: Anyone ever hire it out?

The trim on the first floor of my house has never been painted, and it's old growth pine that is stained to look like cherry. However, all the crown moulding in these rooms is painted white! I know that this is the way things were done, but much like Bonnie, I don't appreciate it. It's a very simple...

Re: You Might Be an Old Home Owner if...

You know how to do things better than all the contractors you interview, thus leading you to vow to do it all yourself, and thus adding years to the projects. *sigh*

Re: I listed my house today!

Congratulations! This must be so bittersweet. And thank you so much for your before and after shots! They really inspire me and give me ideas on what to do with my house. I really hate this letter writing trend, and I'm hoping that the next time my house will be up for sale is when I'm dead so I don...

Re: Old Member...new name!

Two of my great aunts lived in Cleveland, because that is where my family settled when they came over from Italy in the 1900's. I always loved their small old houses as I was growing up, probably built in the 20's or 30's. I used to spend summers there and slept in the attic bedroom. My little house...

"The Restoration Man" on YouTube

Hello all, I came across this program a few days ago and have fallen into the rabbit hole. It's all about people doing DIY on historic buildings in the U.K. and I thought you all would enjoy it if you haven't seen it.
