Re: for all you mid century kitchen fans.

I'm wondering what electric equipment is used at the table.

Re: 1939 "Minimal Traditional" Cottage

Phil, they are aluminum and factory finished, so this also cuts down on having to worry about repainting in the future. I'm not sure Allied has a warranty on the finish or not, but ProVia, the storm door dealer that I'm going with, offers a lifetime warranty on their finish. I hope that one of their...

Re: 1939 "Minimal Traditional" Cottage

I got my samples from Allied Window (storm windows) today! It really is a quality product, and since I plan to put in air conditioning this year, I don't think I'll need screens for every window. They told me that if I ever want more screens down the line, all I have to do is call them up and tell t...

Re: A New Vexation

Phil, Willa has said that when she bought the house, next door was a car lot, not a gas station.

Willa, I think planting trees is a good idea. I'm the second house in from a main road, and I have a row of cedars blocking it for me.

Re: 1939 "Minimal Traditional" Cottage

I finally found a local contractor to paint my house! Also he can rebuild my back porch, replace my rotted window sills, and measure for and install new storm windows for me! He has 35 years experience and obviously knows old houses. I am so happy that I can finally line up all this work for the sum...

Re: Old House Dreams - where should I go live?

I didn't know about Old House Dreams when I bought my house. I wish I would have, but I can see many ways how it could go wrong unless you actually go to the house first. Photos can be very deceiving, and will not take into account the neighborhood. I knew I wanted to live in Vermont, and I also lov...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Willa, having thought about my experiences with contractors lately, I see another pattern -- the younger guys tend to treat me with respect and as an equal. I guess they grew up with ladies being able to do whatever they want, so I feel like things might be changing in a good way. :)

Gals and guys, I beseech you, please let's try to see both sides before making any decisions or carrying on the problematic discussion. Corsetière, you are extremely talented and leaving here would be a huge loss for us all. Your house and your the work you have done on it are truly an inspiration t...

Re: 1939 "Minimal Traditional" Cottage

I apologize, James, at first I didn't know you were teasing. But I take no offense, because some people do better in heat than others. I do wish you the best in that Southern heat that I just can't stand anymore. When I was younger, I was always cold and I hated A/C. But when that "certain age&...

Re: Matching the old Bathroom fixtures

Yes, Phil, this is why I ultimately decided against putting in a clawfoot tub. It has been my dream for many years, but after using one in a B&B in San Francisco, I realized that I didn't want to have to step up that high and I'm not getting any younger. I also do plan to put a grab bar in -- so...
