Re: c 1815-early 1820s Baltimore sofa

Ohhh... I'm so jealous. I would do it up in velvet!

Re: What I did at my house today...

Update on the back storm door saga: I painted the new brick mould on Saturday, and the guy came by today to install the door, and ran into one problem after another. He clearly had no idea what he was doing and admitted the same, and finally he said he would just take the door and walk away, with no...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Yes, Phil, the standard size is 32", which my guy ordered. My door opening is 31" to 31 1/2". I would have to build out the jamb either way in order to accomodate the door knobs of both doors, so adding the new outside moulding is the only option anyway if I want to retain my original...

Re: self leveling cement/epoxy?

I am almost 100% positive that's what the PO did in the kitchen of my house. At least, this is what I am expecting when I eventually pull up the sorry impossible-to-get-clean vinyl flooring. I knew when I bought the house that hoping for the original wood floors in the kitchen was a dream that would...

Re: Beebe -- our 1935 Bungalow on Baker Street.

Oh wow, nice find! Those are exactly like some of the doors in my house! Two of them are present, but the other two were probably taken off in the 50's when people stopped worrying about closing rooms off for heating/smoking/cooking odor purposes. (And I am waiting for the current "open floorpl...

Ah! So an exterior brick mould installation might also be an option for you when you go to replace if it would be too difficult to balance the gaps out. I know, it's not ideal because it's not flush, but once it's painted I don't think it will look too bad.

Re: What I did at my house today...

I know what you're saying, but this is a small business owner who I'm going to have to rely on in the future for any glass that I will need to replace when I'm restoring my windows. He's right down the street, so I'd rather not spoil the relationship. He's willing to make it work, and the measuremen...

Re: What I did at my house today...

So the storm door guy ordered the incorrect custom ProVia door size, and now we have to do gymnastics to get it to fit, which include me painting and caulking new brick moulding. I am not happy about this, but he didn't seem impressed when I said the alternative would be to order a new door in the c...

Re: What is your interior design philosophy?

I'd rather go with the style of the house rather than the date it was built, as well as taking into account how fashionable people were in its location. Here in rural Vermont I doubt folks were interested in the latest styles. My house was built in the Art Deco period, but its style is more Tudor Re...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Well, after all this waiting for the plantation shutters I ordered, and then not being able to install them because I needed a countersink drill bit, I've decided that I hate them. So now I'm really glad that I wasn't able to screw them in. I've since done some research and found that Norman brand i...
