Re: Has anyone had to "rough it"?
Thank you for all your comments. Our "new" temporary home. Paid for it and picking it up next weekend. Now we don't feel so rushed and no longer have to go from one residence to another while we are working on the old house. We were also worried about our cat, deep in the woods with a tent...

Re: Old House Archaeology
Loving these pictures! Cool finds! I keep forgetting to ask my Dad if he still has my mother's metal detector. (My Mom passed away two months ago, and Dad is 88). We live on Nipsachuck Hill, near the site of the 1675-1678 King Philips War. (House was built in 1698) m (Link is about a neighbor's prop...

Re: Some attic finds...more to come when I have time to take pictures!
The guillotine shingle cutter is a cool piece. It's from the 1930s. Almost looks like something you could see being misused in a "Three Stooges" short. The lamp is from the same era. The chair with the blue upholstery doesn't appear to be that old - maybe 1970s-80s. The writing desk and t...

Re: Has anyone had to "rough it"?
Oh my, yes, I have roughed it. I did not have a fully functioning toilet for about a week and a shower for months. It was tough. My plumber got enough repaired to at least run a garden hose that we used to manually fill the toilet tank so it could be flushed, but for a week we were running to the n...

Re: Has anyone had to "rough it"?
Sorry folks....I was just trying to build my confidence tackling this huge undertaking of a home, by reminding myself out-loud of how difficult it was to deliver mail.
Should I take these pictures down? I don't know if anyone ever posts pictures of themselves or not.

Re: Has anyone had to "rough it"?
I forgot about camping showers, but Jacquie's suggestion is an excellent one. Place a pallet on the ground and build a simple frame around it. Then, use a tarp for the walls. It's crude, but it works. It's only temporary. Any crude set up will be fine. I love your idea, thanks. Before we had runnin...

Re: Has anyone had to "rough it"?
When we first moved into our house, the only full bathroom was beyond "leaky"- it was absurdly so. Unusably so. Until we could figure out a fix, and to ensure the house didn't get damaged by water further, we just did sink baths- kids in the sink, and adults with a sink full of soapy wate...

Re: Gothichome, the restoration of.
Warren, Mike and all the others. It is amazing the home survived 140 years wear the only modernization was the paint on the trim. We are still looking for a period picture of the exterior before the Gothic details were removed (or fell off). All we have are hints of what was up there. Also, I have ...
