Re: Re-financing?

I recently refinanced and I think it depends on the company and people you're working with. Mine was completed in about three weeks without inspection. My brother also refinanced, didn't really get a good deal from one large national bank that rhymes with "Mel's Cargo", but another lender found some...

Re: Rusty Nails in Siding

Thank you for the reply. These nails go through the bottom of the board through to the top of the board underneath. and you can see the rust coming out from underneath the paint. I will try and snap a photo later today. Those lovely eight or ten inch x 24" asbestos cement shingles were put over the ...

Rusty Nails in Siding

Hello, I'm attempting to refinish some original cedar siding by stripping the paint then repainting. This is an area that had extensive water damage due to a leaking roof at some point. I had to remove about 12 boards to repair the rotten sheathing underneath. The rest of the siding still attached h...

Old House Archaeology

Thought I'd share the stuff I've found with my renovation. Though I was dissapointed to find the wallet empty of money, it still made me smile when I discovered the pictures instead. I'm sure it was placed purposly and once I'm done I've decided to put it back where I found it. No gold or jewels- on...

Re: Bath Window Suggestions

Is there anywhere else in the house a shower stall could go and keep this a bath only? Is this an occasional use shower or the whole fam taking a daily shower in it every day? I would definitely consider it however, it's a small house and this is the bathroom. There will be a bath exhaust fan insta...

Re: Bath Window Suggestions

The roof is sound now. It's been fixed for several years, even before we bought it, but now dealing with the aftermath. More worried about the house blowing over in a stiff breeze. The wall is totally dry now, so I'll probably end up insulating and sealing up, then fixing from the outside when it ev...

Re: Bath Window Suggestions

Found the before picture. It almost looks like a normal bathroom but I assure you that it was disgusting. Note the extension of the bathtub at the right end. It leaked.

Re: Bath Window Suggestions

Whew! I was going to post these pics, but things got busy-I had to deal with this: IMG_2875.JPG That's an exterior wall. Note to self: make sure roofs are mainted before they leak. Both top and double plates crumbled in hand as did exterior sheating and tops of studs. The white stuff is fungus. At l...

Re: Bath Window Suggestions

I don't want to change the size of the window, and I'd rather not put in a smaller window there. It's a hassle enough that I need to fix the framing. There is something clear and textured in place now, but I can't remember if it's glass or plastic. I like the light, so if a curtain is used, then prob...
