Re: 1837 Farmhouse (Eastern PA)

Wackyshack, I hope they aren't planning any zoning... There are farmlands all around this area. I would think development would happen closer to the main road. This house is back off on secondary roads. Where\how could one check if someone was planning to develop nearby lands? As far as I am aware, ...

Re: 1837 Farmhouse (Eastern PA)

lisascenic, I guess that's what you use to support\hold together the foundation? On my way home from work today there were a bunch of cars at the house, so I pulled over. Some of the cars were hunters in the nearby field. The person walking around the house was the maintenance man for the bank who h...

Re: 1837 Farmhouse (Eastern PA)

nhguy, Thank you for the comment on the bad sill. Now that I relook at the pictures, that's where the old cistern pipe comes in. It does look like that corner was pulled apart\messed with at one point. I do have a contractor that will come up from Quakertown to give me an estimate on the foundation ...

Re: 1837 Farmhouse (Eastern PA)

Hey Eperot, Yes, the barns are included. The large one has an overhang on the road side that has fallen off the foundation and is precariously leaning towards the road. My brother-in-law is a roofer and will help me to take off that portion of the barn. We will leave the other 2/3rds intact and atte...

Re: 1837 Farmhouse (Eastern PA)

Thank you everyone for the input! Nicholas, The lot is just under 2 acres. It is surrounded by farmland and in a very peaceful setting. There is a Barn and a couple other smaller out houses. Gothichome, It looks as if the wall has slid off of the end of the beam and shifted down about 2 inches. I th...

Re: 1837 Farmhouse (Eastern PA)

Hi matchbookhouse, Yes, the house is fairly cheap and we have priced out repairs we need to do and can get it move in ready without breaking the bank. I'm not sure how reassessments work these days. We bought our current house in 1995 and in 1997 added a two car garage attached to it. The permit and...

1837 Farmhouse (Eastern PA)

Hello all, My wife and I are in the process of purchasing our first old house. We are still negotiating the price, but have a mile long list of things that need (and a lot of wants) to get done. The house has had all the electrical, copper piping and heating stolen. There is a sunken corner in the b...
