Re: Greek Revival: Wallpaper or paint?
I've found some wallpaper sources (Hamilton Weston, Bradbury,....) and am trying to pick a few I might like, then figure out cost. The price tag might be the decision maker for me in the end!

Re: Greek Revival: Wallpaper or paint?
I should have mentioned that it is not plaster. I wish.

Greek Revival: Wallpaper or paint?
I need advice. We will be pulling down the wallpaper in this room, covering over the window to the left of the fireplace (it was a later addition) and possibly sheet-rocking the walls. Should I sheetrock the ceiling as well? The goal will be to put up wallpaper appropriate to the period (1855) or pa...

Re: Brand new (new to us!!) 1855 Texas plantation house
Actually, that upstairs room was called a "Sick Room". The only access was from the porch so that people would not spread the illness through the house. Although, they'd still have to enter back into the upstairs central hallway to get down the stairs since there is not an outside stairwel...

Re: Update on the porch
We are in a holding pattern waiting on materials at the moment. In the meantime we have removed the siding from the west side of the house, replaced rotten supports, rewired the electrical, insulated and are ready for plywood and tyvek then new siding. The columns (all bases pretty much rotten) will...

Update on the porch
It's been 5 months since we bought the old house and after making lists of what needs to be done, we attacked the porches first. If these photos don't show up (which seems to be a user issue with me) I'm updating on instagram at cw3424. That seems to work for me. IMG_9975.JPG IMG_9974.JPG IMG_9969.J...

Re: Texas members - Hurricane Harvey
All good in Independence, TX. Lots of wind and constant rain, but we never lost power and no leaks! Pretty amazing. We did discover some "water features" on the property we weren't aware of. They've since drained and left behind the mosquitos.

Re: Brand new (new to us!!) 1855 Texas plantation house
We did remarkably will through Harvey's storm. Every couple of hours we would wander through the house to look for leaks. The old wallpaper has plenty of evidence of prior leaks but those must have been sealed at some point. Our live oak trees made it through as well. Whew!

Re: Brand new (new to us!!) 1855 Texas plantation house
It was, as far as we can tell, two cribs originally. The thought is that after it was built the family wasn't happy with the location. Maybe it was too muddy, who knows. Apparently relocating houses back then was not a big deal. They did have slave labor. It does seem interesting to me, however, tha...
