Re: Hello!

Thanks! I have a few pictures in my thread in the Craftsman's Guild board. More will follow as things progress. Heartwood - the size of the house actually isn't bad (well, I have too many hobbies so my spare bedroom is knee deep in fabric and yarn and wood and leather and paints and chalks and paper...

Re: Lathe and Plaster

Phil, there is insulation in the outside wall (the exterior was recently re-done); I'm not sure about the other walls but I'm not planning on opening them up. I do not want paint on the trim - that was the reason for removing the old stuff, because I wanted to see if I could strip it and re-use. I a...

Hello!

Hi! I'm new here and just purchase the house that I've been renting for a couple of years. It was built in 1918, with the kitchen and bathroom at the back of the house added later but still in the early 20th century (likely in the 1940s), and then renovated later - maybe the 80s or so. The house is ...

Re: Lathe and Plaster

Willa - there's not room for my bed in the kitchen. Well, there is - that's where my bed currently is - but only if the bed is vertical. I tried sleeping in it, but I just keep falling out. There might have been space for my mattress in the living room if I didn't fill that up with all the rest of t...

Re: Lathe and Plaster

Home style... uh... it's what I think of as the generic for a small, early 1900s house in this area, which I'm pretty sure is Arts and Crafts style. But I'll be the first to admit that architecture is not my forte. The original building was a simple four-room design, with the kitchen clearly added l...

Re: Lathe and Plaster

The trim was removed because it was painted and needa stripped, also some was damaged. I want to use stained wood trim, not painted. Then I found out that obviously some had been replaced in later years while some was original, so none of the pieces match, not even close. The 1940s wood is the nices...

Lathe and Plaster

Hi! I'm new here, and I have a bit of a conundrum. I just closed on my house - built in 1918, but the kitchen and bathroom were added later, and based on the newspaper we found inside the door frame, remodeled in 1947, and the larger closet looks newer, maybe a 70s or 80s job. Before I get too off t...
