Re: Nesting
Folks, with all do respect may I suggest a truce on this subject be implemented. Points have been made and counter points presented, but has gone well past the theme and reason for the District. It has nothing to do with loving, living in, and restoring old homes. The original post was divisive and...

Re: Advice on Matching Molding
Have you got any millwork shops in your area? It may be worth it to trace the profile and take it in, on the off-chance they have a blade or profile for that already, or maybe it's easy enough to make up.

Re: Plaster Problems
It's a tough call, on whether to remove the remaining plaster despite it being 'salvageable'. Having just re-read my George Nash book, I will cite him as he discusses the different approaches to fixing old houses, I confess my sympathies lie somewhere between liberal preservation and conservative re...

Re: How to choose an era for renovations
Willa, it's like you walked through my house. I have a donated dining room table that is 8 feet long, and 10 with leaves. It fits into my dining room, but takes all the space. And in my living room I bought a wonderfully comfortable sectional sofa, which I love a lot, but that instantly made my livi...

Re: How to choose an era for renovations
Wow, all wonderful thoughts and suggestions! Much appreciated! I had looked at another thread that is somewhat related to my question, which offered thoughtful comments on how we live in our old houses. https://thehistoricdistrict.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12113&p=126040&hilit=historic+per...

How to choose an era for renovations
I'll be finishing the interior of the addition to my 1912 American foursquare, as well as the original part of the house. The original part of the house does not have original lighting, kitchen, or bath fixtures. It has original (painted) trim and flooring that I will refinish to a light stain. I do...

Re: LED Bulb Question
Good question and discussion. I'm excited to use LED built fixtures in my new addition (should it ever get done). There's not a lot of vintage-looking LED selection out there yet, but the main dealers have them. I'm mostly excited because my vision isn't what it used to be and good light really helps.

Re: Urgent window question
Thanks! Jade, I much appreciate your advice about not rushing. It's a classic situation of his lack of planning has led to my having an emergency. I'll tell him I'm not doing this weekend. If you could come and help me slap up this builder, I would consider it a jolly Christmas! So, if I understand ...
