Re: Santa came early for me

It looks large enough to double as a ping pong table ! No board will go unsawn in your home.

Your neighbours might discover this powerhouse of a tool and suddenly you'll have all kinds of "little" cuts to do for them.

Re: Priming Skim Coated Plaster Repair Dilemma

(crickets)..... I decided to use the oil primer only on the areas where there was raw plaster. I let this dry for 24 hours then painted over everything with a light colored latex paint to help to hide that strong yellow. I couldn't find info online that supported doing this or NOT doing this but I f...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Stairwell is now primed and ready to be painted. I used oil primer on the raw plaster areas, then used leftover light colored paint to coat it all after the primer dried for 24 hrs. It is so much brighter. I could obsess and go back to fill in minor dings and uneven areas but I am strongly tempted t...

Priming Skim Coated Plaster Repair Dilemma

The plaster repair and skim coat in my stairwell has a considerable surface area. I know this needs to be primed with an alkyd primer before it is painted. My question is - do I only prime the repaired areas with the alkyd primer ? The terrible yellow is a latex paint, and I understand that you don'...

Re: Best Way to Age a Bathroom?

Bungalow Bathrooms by Jane Powell is an excellent reference book. Bungalow means early 20th century single story house, not late 50's or after bungalow. There are lots of great photos of late victorian to perhaps 1930's baths. Question - do you need the shower for a guest bath ? If you took it out t...

Patron Saint of Mrs.Beeton

Not Mrs.Beeton, but a figurehead for all the cooking that has come before in our old homes:

* Please note that she and her relatives should be held accountable for the decorating choices. I'll bet the cakes were amazing, though.

Re: What I did at my house today...

The 3rd and I hope final layer of skim coating on the troubled areas was done today. There were so many cracks and dents and remnants of old textured wallpaper to cover. There was one crack high up on the wall I just could not reach with my ladder. I wasn't committed enough to buy a taller ladder or...

Re: A New Old House

I suspect there are some shenanigans under those sconces. The contradictions in what was paid attention to v.s. ignored is really starting to puzzle me. Not enough to start taking those sconces off the wall to inspect but, enough that I have plenty to wonder about.

I'm really concerned about that load bearing wall you have removed ? Or am I misunderstanding what you have done so far ?
