Re: Wood Filler For Table Tops?

id just use the wqter based putty and doctor it with powdered pigments I get mine from mohawk but maybe lee valley or other places sell them as well. Just make sure you are matching the color WITH the topcoat as it may look different with the topcoat on. Masking tape is your friend so you don't get...

Wood Filler For Table Tops?

Hey Folks, I'm working on a table using some reclaimed wood. The wood has a lot of rot and bug trenches in it, which I'd like to fill with a putty of some sort. I'd also like to add pigment to the putty so in the finished product you can still see where bug marks were but it will be a smooth surface...

How to make some purely decorative brick work?

I'm finishing up a project where I'm converting a gas brick fireplace to a book shelf and entertainment center. Don't worry the fireplace is not historic, and to add insult to injury the previous owners painted it white. Nonetheless this is shaping up to be a nice project, but I need to add about 6s...

Re: What is the best way to strip muntins and molding?

I've never had any luck with a profile mold scraper...my all time favorite scraper is bahco 620 with a triangle blade...really, curved profiles are a series of straight lines...you need to develop a good sturdy but soft touch... the easiest way to remove glass that I have found is using a steambox....

Re: What is the best way to strip muntins and molding?

[quote="Sashguy"]You're probably not geared up to do it the way that I do, so the easiest method that I know of is with a heat gun and Phil's method. Lay a heat sink over the glass first. Myself... I disassemble the sash run the flats through a planer and pass the muntins over the router w...

What is the best way to strip muntins and molding?

The muntins on my windows have been painted so much I can't seem to get the profile correct on a scraper. What's the best method? Stripper and a wire brush? Currently I'm getting close with a wire brush and multiple coats of stripper, but it's still not the way I like it.

Re: How do you guys cut old glass?

<<<That's some great stuff. Do you ever cut glass right out of the sash?>>> Pretty much everything that I cut comes out of old sashes. If you go back a couple months, I did a post on how to disassemble a frame to remove glass without breakage. KEY POINT Always clean the glass thoroughly before you ...

What chemical paint strippers do you recommend?

I'm stripping a ton of windows, trim, and wood work. What products do you all recommend for stripping? I've avoided lye for safety reasons, and have mostly used Citristrip, with so so results. I find even when covered it doesn't penetrate to deep.
