Restoring Original Porch Swing

We have been gifted the original porch swing for our 1914 prairie house. The family believes it is made from trees from our farm, possibly walnut. We would like to restore it and put it back on the front porch where it originally was located. Any advice on restoring it and protecting it from the ele...

Re: Glazing won't dry

Phil, unfortunately, they are not wavy glass. We don't have any original glass for these windows. Luckily these two windows do not get much attention from the road and visitors to the house due to their placement. PaulJohnson, thank you for the offer! I have family that recently purchased an older h...

Glazing won't dry

After working on the two main stories of our home's windows, we have finally made it to the basement windows. One window needed a new muntin and we had a local woodworker repair it for us. He also made a replica for another missing basement window. When I picked up the two windows, I was surprised t...

Re: Name and Source for Window Latch

I'll watch ebay to see if I can score similar ones. The loop for the window pole is something I had not thought of. My husband just showed me the window pole that was left in the house the other day. Thank you for the help with wording to use in searches. I wasn't sure if casement was the correct te...

Name and Source for Window Latch

The bowed window I previously posted is in our kitchen. Next, we are moving on to the dining room window. We have two windows that swing in on two vertical hinges (like a door). The latch for these two windows are missing. We have similar windows in our living room that have the latch that I attache...

Help with bowed meeting rail on top window

Hi everyone! My husband and I have started restoration work on our original wood windows. We have a kitchen window that faces the west and it has a bowed meeting rail. I know we have at least one more of these on the east side of the house. It looked like it had been repaired by adding a lot of glaz...

Re: Victorian linen closet

I'm attaching a picture of our pantry adjustable shelves. The shelves are 43 inches across, 16 inches deep. It definitely looks like the sawtooth design that has been mentioned. I checked out our bookshelves, and they have the same system.

Soapstone or Concrete Sink?

We have an old double wash tub in our basement that, unfortunately, has a large crack. I think it may be original to the house and would like to keep it if that is true. The attached picture is of the front of the tub. It has an etching/stamping that looks like "C. Wesely" and two dates. T...

Re: Original Tub with Rust?

A small update: The powder version of Barkeepers Friend and blue scotch brite worked wonders! The circle rust ring is completely gone with just a little elbow grease. The drain has cleared up well also. There is a little pitting that will need the porcelain chip kit. It is purchased, but I haven't h...
