Re: Anderson windows is stalking my neighborhood

Years ago I had a phone call from a telephone solicitor from a guy who wanted to reface my kitchen cabinets. I had a few minutes to kill so I let him talk. After he went through long his spiel I was silent. He said "are you still there?" I said "yes". He said "what do you th...

Congratulations. Waiting for just the right one is important for a lasting relationship. May the two of you have many good years together as you work to restore your lovely home. You won't have to worry about getting burned as long as you treat your new love with proper care and respect. ;)

Unread postby Corsetière » Thu Dec 10, 2015 9:53 am My realtor stopped by yesterday and gave me a great tip for finishing up the door to Narnia. Before the mud completely hardened, he took a straight edge and ran it down the wall shaving off an extra that stuck out. I wouldn't have thought of that ...

Postby phil » Thu Nov 12, 2015 3:40 pm what purpose do the archways serve? they look nice but was it to save brick or to allow someone to walk under the chimney or ? mine just looks like a brick wall on all 4 sides. I found the reason for the arches in Thomas Hubka's book "Big House, Little Ho...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

Discovery is the best part of tearing something apart. Congratulations on your find, especially since it reinforces your intentions. As for floor sanding, I did one. I had a lot of problems with the rental sander power cutting out. I'll sand a new floor but I'll hire someone to do if it requires str...

Re: Circa 1884 McCuiston House

Great research work. If you want to go further, take the name of any who may have died while living there and go to your local probate records office. I was able to get copies of complete inventories from owners in 1832 and 1887. There were also legal documents on file written and signed by family m...

Re: 1806

Another project from a couple years ago. The original ell was torn down in the 1970s and rebuilt over the old foundation. This room was a 3 season porch with barn board walls and a concrete floor that looked like it was poured by a drunken cement worker. It was full of ripples and waves. A friend an...

Re: what do you do to save money?

I'm sorry but I just have to comment on the title of this thread. It should read "How do you cut back on expenses so you can sink more money into your old house". Wouldn't that make more sense? I think we can all relate to that.

Re: What I did at my house today...

Jade - I wondered it that question would come up. The picture doesn't show it clearly. The floor was dirt when we moved in 11 years ago. One of the first things I did was lay heavy plastic and pea stone on top. When I go in the basement, I don't track dirt in the house when I come back up. I got the...
