Re: How have you said "NO" to plastic?

The only plastic we use, really, is for kitty litter scooping; I recycle plastic grocery bags for that, but they're still heading for landfill. We use cloth bags for groceries. I've been wracking my brain to find a way to change how we dispose of cat litter. If we had acres I'd dig a big pit somewhe...

Re: 1910 farmhouse

Neighmond, that's a sweet house...and..and...you have fish scales! *swoon* Eperot; thanks for the welcome. I'll have to think about colors on the house; I am confident where to put them on the porch as trim, not so much on the house - probably because I'm so stuck in my mind on simple-farmhouse styl...

Re: Concrete foundation issues

No expert here, either, but I remember an expert in this business saying that over 80% of all wet basement problems originate with the gutter system, or lack thereof. I think I would have an engineer check the integrity of the foundation if you are really concerned; not a company that might have a v...

Re: Hardwood underneath awful carpet...

What I can see of them downstairs, they look to be roughly 4-6", with some variation in widths. I don't really know if they need it as I haven't pulled the sheet vinyl flooring (two layers) up yet, but from the basement they look to be nice plain hardwood, no splits, cuts, etc. Someone laid ply...
