At my gym, the exercise machines are hooked up to a generator which provides electricity for our smoking lounge.

Any electrical system is always just a statement of priorities.

Re: What I did at my house today...

It's been a while. Honestly, it's been really nice not working on the house all the time. Then along comes Facebook market place and just like that we have a baby grand piano on the way. The requisite moving of furniture revealed water damage to the plaster on one wall. So we started chipping away u...

Re: The joys of living beside a river

Flood water can be cruel. I'm so glad we don't get ice on the river here to amount to anything. We're looking at being three feet over flood stage here by Sunday. That'll close some roads, close a couple of flood gates in town, and not much else. We don't really get too worked up until we're looking...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Very nice, but do you have the really crucial stuff--you know, milk, bread and toilet paper? That outdoor kitchen is looking really spiffy, Jeep. Did you get to use it much during the outdoor season last year? I'm still using it. The water is shut off but everything else is still in play. I have a ...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Very nice floor tile design. It's an art getting it all to line up in an old house. I spent a day getting ready for snow. Because I am prepared, we will not get it. New tires on the back loaded with windshield washer fluid. Everything else tested and adjusted. That's as close to a guarantee as I can...

Re: another church bites the dust

That's a real shame. Arsonists are a different breed. Often it's not so much a grudge against religion as it is an easy target. Churches, especially little ones like that, are not occupied over night so they're attractive to a fire bug. They also draw an emotional crowd, which fire bugs really get s...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Well sheeeeesh! I just won our neighborhood's award of recognition for historic preservation last night! LOL! Quite the surprise! That's great news. No doubt a bit of vindication for hanging in there when the going got pretty rough in the beginning. Take a couple of days off from the house to just ...

And just like that Christmas goes kablooey!!!

We woke up Thursday morning to low water pressure and not hot water. Hmm... Let's look in the basement. Yep, full of water and the old hot water tank is making like Old Faithful. Crap. I had been saving some nickles and dimes to buy a new rifle for myself and some jewelry for my wife for Christmas. ...

Ducted minisplit attached to a plenum. You don't have to punch all those walls full of holes to do it. The price is right. I have two of them running in my house.
