Re: Special treat...period kitchens

LOL Yes very unfitted.....DH would say it's "Unfitted to work in". They pulled the kitchen out of the ummm well kitchen, so that the bed and breakfast could serve 24 guests (12 in the kitchen and 12 in the dining room). Such a goofy thing to do but I suppose when all you do is make a quich...

Re: Special treat...period kitchens

Kansas, I have another place in Anchorage Alaska (it's a 1980's townhouse that we gutted and remodeled) with that smaller kitchen, though it functions like a dream because we built it for us I love this house, but I always go into that home and go right into the kitchen and give the range a kiss hel...

Re: Special treat...period kitchens

A 20 x 20 foot kitchen? What would I DO with all that space? Mine is 9 x 9ft. 2. With a 6 ft. 11 ceiling. Heh heh, it's amazing what you can do with space when you have it. My other kitchen is 13x15 and I thought that was huge. I lust over your house....the history...I'd be licking those walls tryi...

Re: You know, we are all crazy...

We are often told to consider replacing our 120 year old windows. Thank god they're protected so we, and no other idiot owner can replace them with something plastic. I wish all houses were....that you had to prove the need prior to buying those horrible things. I took down three christmas trees tod...

Re: Special treat...period kitchens

On gardenweb they used to have a thread about kitchens done for less than 5k. Pretty amazing kitchens really, and often they looked as good or better than many 50k plus kitchens I've seen. Elbow grease is a must but even then you have to work (hunt) a lot to make that happen of appliances are involv...

Re: Special treat...period kitchens

If you scroll further down in my link of average costs it also gives the "upscale" average, and that is $110k for the MidAtlantic region. I could do that in my sleep :p it's not hard when your kitchen is 20x20 and you want real wood verses fiber crap. Tiling alone in this joint is going t...

Re: An experiment, build new, like the old

You don't have to answer this here but the banker in me wants to ask if you plan on paying cash for this build. The reason being is that financing construction is a pain in the arse now a days and owner builders in any form (ie you doing the inside finishes) is challenging to get financed. You may n...

Re: Period furnishing for our period homes

I used to go to this auction house in Alaska that sold wine during auctions. I often saw someone bid after a couple of glasses too many. Great idea for sales lol.

Re: Period furnishing for our period homes

Oh I prefer the firm demanding thrust which I typically end up doing while drinking wine at a charity event (don't even ask about the African Safari debacle). But that worked for me at the last event where I won this little number.... http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z265/Igloochic/a2e58e8443908ce...
