Re: What I did at my house today...

I think you’re really misreading me, I was being sincere. But I do stand by the fact that women are treated differently in this forum and other online restoration forums. I thought it was actually cool that you might have recognized that and tried to clarify your intention with what you wrote. But h...

Re: What I did at my house today...

I’ve done quite a lot of this kind of work at this point so I have a really good handle on it. Just finished stripping all of them tonight. My intention was not to insult your skills or experience, only to be encouraging. I'm sorry if you interpreted my comment otherwise. Oh I’m not offended. I’ve ...

Re: What I did at my house today...

I was wondering about the logistics about removing then reattaching pocket doors to the hardware. In theory the removal of a door makes it easier...but in practice this becomes more complex. I personally don't think I could manage to rehang an average sized antique door without an extra pair of han...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Corcetiere, now it’s down to the sticky spots, cracks and dents. There is a certain sense of satisfaction in removing large swaths of paint. It’s the finicky stuff that seen to take for ever. But as usual, you will show us a master class on how it’s done. Thanks! Can’t wait to finish them but I hav...

Re: What I did at my house today...

I second Phil's suggestion. If the doors can come off without too much hassle, you are so much better off having them conveniently positioned to work on them, plus they'll gobble up so much space you will be additionally motivated to finish them. Yeah...there’s no way I’m messing with taking them d...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Yeah! I do think it took me about 4-5 hours! I filled up an entire contractors bucket with paint chips just from stripping two sides! Crazy! There's still a lot of shellac residue on them which is why they look so irregular. I'm borrowing the tool so I am trying to bust out as much stripping as poss...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Phew! What a huge project! I only have one side of the last door to do yet and I think I will be able to finish it tomorrow! That was 6 huge doors in total! I used the Speedheater 1100 (infrared tool) and I do have to say I think it was faster than chemical stripper, once I got the hang of it. I am ...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Corcetiere, we have seen your work, I don’t think you need deities, unless of course they are looking for a lesson on paint stripping from you. ha ha! I guess I am more praying for strength, speed, and fortitude. I am so sick of having to do tasks to appease my Health Dept overlords. But the good n...

The goddess be with you!

Thank you! I am invoking any dieties that can help! Coincidentally my Ganesha (remover of obstacles) statue turned up when I was cleaning up a storage room. C'mon, Ganesha! Remove all barriers!
