Re: Need help figuring out floorboard cupping
Hi Phil, I don't know if it is useful or immediately obvious but when i was laying my stairs I spoke to one of the instructors and he gave me a pointer "lay all the treads heart side up" -- since the floors survived all these years without signs of any buckling and loosening from the subfl...

Re: Need help figuring out floorboard cupping
Two quick questions... hopefully it will get you an answer quicker. Is the space beneath the floor open, ventilated or totally framed in? Can I assume from you post that you are running the air conditioning a lot? Oh, and are the floors original, or did they replace 10 years ago as well. If they we...

Re: Need help figuring out floorboard cupping
http://www.joelstiburek.com I believe I read an article at Building Science Corporation about spray foam insulation, particularly for the underside of raised floors in the humid south-- I'll need to find that again. It was a case study that shed great light on reasons to do the sprayed foam after a...

Re: Love This District
Hey Eric, thanks for the kind words of recognition. I don't know if I would say I would take credit for being the one to start this up, but I certainly am the one who made it a reality. It's me behind the curtain (or in the boiler room) if you will, hosting the site and keeping it running on a tech...

Need help figuring out floorboard cupping
Happy New Year everyone! I wanted to start getting advise from ya'll before talking to any contractors about my flooring problem--I dread talking to contractors unfamiliar with old house issues, as we all know how that tends to go Our house was partially renovated and updated after Hurricane Katrina...

Re: Greetings from the Heartland!
That is a truly fantastic looking house, and that it has all of the original details intact is a treasure. I visited a friends old house yesterday and it too has all the old details still intact. It was like walking back in time since so many have been renovated and modernized-- and lost some of the...

Re: Living In A Railroad Town
I too am a block from the tracks and the trains come through blasting their horn nonstop just like this video. My train does pass through faster however, like 35 mph I'd guess. Several small side street crossings.

Re: Re-introduction from Gulf Coast
I love seeing all the same folks as before! Like a homecoming. I hope to crawl under the house this weekend only to confirm no lagoons developing under the house. But we're a whopping 23 ft above sea level and water table is pretty far down too-- sitting on former beach, very sandy soil that is dry ...
