I always have a fire ext. and a spray bottle of water near by. Yes, heat guns can be dangerous. I also love to use a heat gun for paint removal. Burning the wood can be a problem if you're not going to repaint. I use a cheap one too. I think a good scraping tool is very important though.

I'm new to this forum. I've been repairing the wooden windows in an old house for the past 2 years (weekends mostly).
