Re: What are your subfloor dimensions...aka what's the right dimensions for replacements?

Mick, understood. Ideally, though, Id take an angle grinder with a wire brush wheel to get as much of the ammonia off the wood prior to bulleye-ing..which is what the mold company did for the basement, then seal with either poly or Bullseye. I just hate to throw 500 bucks at the problem if it ends u...

Re: Western PA beauty

Holy crap is that beautiful, thank you for sharing. Even the original kitchen cabinets are intact. Swoon. The problem is moisture. There is a LOT of moisture inside that building, I would be very nervous about mold....it looks like the foyer ceiling is filled with mold. If nothing else, an architect...

Re: What are your subfloor dimensions...aka what's the right dimensions for replacements?

Mick, the big part of my problem is that I can't do anything. Everything I do has to be hired out since I cannot put any weight on my left leg.. If I was healthy, I would probably attempt it, but part of me just wants to get it DONE. Particularly since I am working from home right now...even with ev...

Re: What are your subfloor dimensions...aka what's the right dimensions for replacements?

Hi all, thanks for the advice. Although I started the thread talking about the 1st floor, the time has come. I think I need to rip and replace the 2nd floor subfloor. I hate, hate hate to do it. But, the master bedroom subfloor is literally covered in cat pee (look at all the lovely ammonia stains o...

Re: Time to party.

Nick, first off, I am so sorry for your loss. As someone from my past once taught me, those who we have lost are never really gone if we remember them. I try, on a particular day of the year, to tell myself a story, to remind me of someone who left the earth too quickly. May your party, and your mem...

Re: What are your subfloor dimensions...aka what's the right dimensions for replacements?

Do you have the room from the joists to fit that? GC, what do you mean here? Are you referring to how the subfloor would slide under the existing base molding? If I wanted to do that, I would need the existing depth of 1/2"...which isn't up to current code I did find 1k sq ft of 1/2" dime...

Re: What are your subfloor dimensions...aka what's the right dimensions for replacements?

Thanks Mick. If I did plywood, I'd use 1 inch marine grade, because I do not want knots. Reading Fine Homebuilding and other professional building forums have led me to believe that even plywood quality, these days, has plummeted (hence the rise of Advantek, which is glorified OSB). I would not put ...

What are your subfloor dimensions...aka what's the right dimensions for replacements?

All THD, Since I am couchbound, I thought I'd do some research on a replacement subfloor for the first floor. I have a 20x22 foot building envelope, joists are 2x8, 16" (c to c) span between joists, with a slightly undersized (and cracking) main support beam (which I intend to shore up with ple...
