Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

Hello all, For whatever reason these days (probably just too busy) I only end up posting once a job is complete...and the siding work continues even into November here. So I'll have a whole update in the next two weeks thereabouts. However, an amazing thing happened to me yesterday. Now for anyone w...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

Well hello, all. I've been away for a while but have returned with a bevy of news and joyous completed work! You might recall we last left off in November 2020 with the completion of the west side of the house. This spring I turned to the north (Front) and East sides. Same work, just different sides...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

OLDisBETTER, Sometimes old homes DO have great big windows. Like mine! They are comparatively huge compared to most newer homes. In answer to your question, the first floor windows are 6' (that's the sash, not counting the moldings). The floor to the top of the window sill is only 23", and the ceili...

Re: Traditional Porch Construction

Lily, yup, thanks for that. That's a pretty good resource right there. I will definitely spend some time reading there.

Traditional Porch Construction

Now that I am working on the outside of the house finally, I am putting more thought into the porches I'd like to build. One to replace the long gone front porch, and another on the back of the house off the kitchen. I have plenty of old porches here in town around me to use as examples but seeing o...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

Phil, Your eye is being fooled by the cabin cruiser lines into thinking my boat is bigger than it is...it is actually 17 and a half feet. The cuddy cabin has two berths and if you can believe it, a marine head. The engine is a 1959 Evinrude Starflite 75hp, original to the boat. It spent it's life on...

Re: Are Forums a dying thing?

1918, I'd say you are probably right on about one part...I myself post less these days and usually only when I have an update to the Jacob Beaty House. I also wholeheartedly agree about Facebook...I've never had it and never will. That's rare for a 42 year old. Everyone looks at me like I have three...

Are Forums a dying thing?

It seems to me that the various forums I am on for the various things I am interested in are all....well....crickets chirping. Nobody home. I recall in the days of OldHouseWeb and Wavyglass, and here on the district a flurry of activity in years past and nowadays it seems like hardly anyone posts. D...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

Good eye! It is the Valor Windsor Arch, and although not cheap (l mean, l think l “finished” the Living room 4 years ago?) it was worth the wait. It works like a charm and the picture doesn’t do it justice. The flame pattern, the embers, the whole look of the casting really fits the house. The only ...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)

Thanks, All! And as promised, the fireplace which l finished installing the day before Thanksgiving. It’s great. https://www.thehistoricdistrict.org/gallery/image/2253/source Also, l’ve lost my mind and purchased a 1959 Glasspar Seafair cabin cruiser in need of restoration....you know, for when l ha...
