Re: Attic remodel

So far we have only done about 3 feet out from the edges - which I did with the edger. It was brutal. The edger required I squat holding the 20 pound monster between my legs and fight against the torque of the spinning sanding pad - I wasn't able to kneel because the bag extended waaaay out behind t...

Re: Attic remodel

The hubby is happy, he loves the look of knotty pine. It does smell like a Christmas tree, thankfully not like pee - I just can't believe that you can smell the pine on such old wood. Thanks for the replies!

Re: Attic remodel (Wood species? 4/5 pic)

Took the edge sander to the floor this weekend and here is what we have: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w135/o2annie/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150404_150427909.jpg Does anyone know what type of wood this could be? Does it look like pine? I thought it would be douglas fir, because it seems that was ...

Found some old trim in our attic

In another thread I am tracking progress as we finish off our 3rd floor walk-up attic. I finally worked up the nerve to crawl up into the rafters and check out some bundles of trim that were stored up there. My best guess is that they were removed from our dining room at one point - but I really fee...

Re: Attic remodel

I plan to double check tomorrow. That was not addressed in the proposal so I assume it is not necessary - but we know where assuming can get a gal!

Re: Attic remodel

Thank you for your comments and questions so far. I realize now that I failed to share what we are planning to do with the space beyond making it a family room. Other than the existing bathroom, visible as the drywalled cube in some of the pictures, we do plan to keep the rest of the floor plan open...

Attic remodel

After 16 + years of dreaming, thinking and life getting in the way we are finally proceeding with finishing off our 3rd floor attic space. So I have decided to start a thread where I can post our progress along the way. For starters please know that we have gone back and forth *many* times on alteri...

Re: years from now 1990's McMansion restoration

Granite counter tops will be labeled as an environmental hazard due to their low levels of radiation and radon emission. Like lead paint it will require removal by EPA certified cleanup crews in yellow radiation suits. Oh my - the belly laugh from this one may have woke my entire family! No mention...

Re: Oil floor finish advice please

Phil, you are a life saver! We might just have to move this process into the how-to forum.
Thank you very much - I think I am ready to dive in. I am happy to see your suggestion about starting with a finer grit to get the feel of the machine. I will do that for sure.
