Re: Square window ...not so square window frame

Thank you for the replies! I believe the entire frame has dropped a little on the right side which is causing a small gap between the upper sash and frame in the upper left corner. Because there are so many layers of paint build up I can't tell if the sash will still move smoothly up and down or if ...

Square window ...not so square window frame

I have a large window that I've just removed to begin restoration, I've been procrastinating doing this window because its large and uber heavy and the right side of the frame has a noticeable sag. The inside sill on the right side has sank about an inch, maybe a little less and when removing the wi...

Re: Stripping paint with heatgun - how to get better?

I have best success when there are several layers of paint, if it's thin it's actually harder with a heat gun. Also, apply heat until the paint bubbles up then scrape immediately. Hope that helps!

Re: Stone window sills and step spalling

Thank you! Yes, that is my fear about using something topical. I've reached out to a preservation group for input but haven't heard back as of yet. I'm pretty sure its limestone but i'm no expert :) I'm in WV; I'm pretty sure that would be typical for a home in this region.

Stone window sills and step spalling

We have several stone window ledges as well as our front steps that are spalling. Is there anything we can do to stop this from continuing or repair the areas that we've already lost? There are old repairs on a couple of the stairs that were actually done quite well where it looks like someone put s...

Re: Help!!....Tips for painting diamond pane windows??

Thanks everyone. These are wood windows not lead. I've already stripped and reglazed, they're ready to be painted. I know there's got to be a technique I'm just not aware of to make painting a little easier.
