Jen, I was about to suggest leathered finish granite, but you're already going in that direction.
I chose leathered for my main countertop, and had butcher block made from walnut for either side of my range.
The leathered finish is getting great reviews from everyone who sees it.

We had an awesome weekend up here in Canada! Sunny on Saturday, not a flake of snow since sometime last week! Oh, um, you maybe didn't want to hear that. Huh, er, never-mind!

If you take care of that roof, you will never have to replace it.

Re: Need help figuring out floorboard cupping
Two quick questions... hopefully it will get you an answer quicker. Is the space beneath the floor open, ventilated or totally framed in? Can I assume from you post that you are running the air conditioning a lot? Oh, and are the floors original, or did they replace 10 years ago as well. If they wer...

Re: The "New" kitchen.
My theory is... never feel badly about a decision that turns out nicely. You have nothing to feel oddly about. Your kitchen looks fabulous! Whatever the reasons behind your choice do not matter. Then end product looks perfect for the space, and you are likely utilizing the previous kitchen space in ...

Re: An interesting read-6 reasons to keep old
it is just an unwritten rule, you can put anythign you don't want on the curb at any time and people will take it if they want it. . I'm not sure about other areas of Ontario, or Canada, but that is absolutely the rule in my area. I have rid myself of lots of stuff that way, when moving from my pre...

Teri I'm guessing you are the same sundine from OHW? Glad to see you here. My "new" house is 1948, we are practically family. In some countries, we would be forcibly engaged or something. With all these sites, it has never been about what house you have, but what point of view you have on ...

The skull spiders, I made myself. I bought $2 "garland" from Dollarama that had these gross grey skulls on something that was supposed to look like rope or something. I cut the Styrofoam heads off the garlands (4 skulls per garland), painted them white and used the pipe cleaners (also from...

Sorry, been away super busy since I got this conversation going, now I don't seem to be able to post pictures from photobucket. Not sure what happened. I don't usually like to post links. I think it looks nicer to have pictures in the post, but... http://s722.photobucket.com/user/warrenletson/librar...

Re: Opening up the Eaves out of Necessity - Critters!
Sorry, a bit late to the party, but "Holy crap, that looks soooo much better!" The squirrel may have been a jerk, but look what he showed you. That looks great with the rafters exposed again. I've just completed a back porch to my place, trying to look craftsman style, so I am a big fan of...
